Hi,

after having installed and set-up Open-AudIT (setup.php) the user is almost completely left alone with the task of understanding how this all is supposed to work. Apart from the fact, that audit_linux.sh has shell syntax errors and cannot run (see postings in the Bugs forum) I now also found out, that several things have to be set-up in audit_linux.sh and a file called audit.config. Some (maybe all) of the needed information can be found in viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1393, but this information should be part of a built-in help system (e.g http://my-openaudit-url/help), not of a FAQ (which should answer additional questions).

The "Help" menu in Open-AudIT should link to local helppages showing (at least) how to configure OA and how to add/remove/change PCs. These helppages should be up-to-date.

That would help a lot in setting up Open-AudIT quickly and effectively. Not all sysadmins have the time to dig into the internals of such tools to get them up and running for their company :).

Cheers

frank

I quite agree, however this is a work in progress, and unfortunately (as with most software IMHO) the documentation has not yet caught up with the feature list.

Any help (anybody?!) with improving the documentation would be greatly appreciated. Inbuilt help has some advantages, but online help tends to be more up to date, and with this in mind I think we could try a Wiki type approach to allow the documentation to grow with the users need.

Any comments (anybody?! :D )

Agree with the Wiki suggestion.
