I have just nmapped all of my LANS, but while the audit has discovered 100 or so new devices, and added thier details to the database, the "Other Items Discovered in the last (n) days" section shows only four...all on my local LAN... strange!?, is the code looking at the mac address by any chance?! (machines on a non local network segmant wont reveal their mac address to nmap since they are not talking ethernet to me, just IP).

YUP... thats what the trouble was, changed select to
$sql = "SELECT * FROM other WHERE (other_ip_address <> '' AND ";
