I am going to make a page that will allow you to send some anonymised stats to the project.

Entirely optional if you want to do this (of course). I would prefer to have the reported stats be anonymised, but distinct. Hence, I am thinking of including an MD5 hash of the server name that OAv2 is running on. That way, I have no idea of your details, there is nothing to identify YOU but I can eliminate multiple submissions by the same user - hence not inflating my count of users & devices being audited.

Would this be OK ?

Item's I would like to count are:

Windows Servers.
Windows Workstations.
Other Computers.
Other network devices.

Just to repeat - there would be NO way to associate this data with an individual user. Your details would be displayed (on a page in OAv2) and you could choose to submit, or not.

This would give me some sort of way to get some sort of usage statistics.

I could ask for even more detailsed useage stats, but I think even the item's above would make some people nervous - even though it CANNOT be associated with them...

Think of it as an accurate easy way to create your signature block for here on the forums !!!

Any thougths would be appreciated.

Mark,
It's certainly fine by me although my relatively tiny installation will hopefully only be a small blip for your statistics! Anything that can help make a better and more focused product is a good idea provided the security aspect is taken care of as you outlined.

Fine by me as such things are used by other projects to get stats on their install base.
