I am wanting to build a OAv2 box to play with.
Is there a recommended Linux distro?
I typically build on CentOS 5.5

Not that I can tell, just one that you are comfortable running a LAMP environment on. I run on Ubuntu, but only because it has the Hyper-V components pre-installed, so it runs well as a Hyper-V VM.

For future searchers you can also run on Windows (WAMP).

I think the developer (Mark) runs modern PHP and MySQL so you might run in to problems using old PHP 4 and MySQL 4. But that's a given anyway.

Personally - I run Ubuntu 10.10 at home (always the latest, shiniest) and WinXP with xampp portable at work (on my desktop) and a Debian 5 virtual machine (on ESX).

All run Apache 2 w/ PHP5 and MySQL5.
In theory, it should work with PHP4 - but I wouldn't recommend it.
Just go with a Apache2, PHP5 & MySQL5 and you'll be good to go - distribution shouldn't matter.

Also in theory (simply because I haven't tried it) it should work fine on any webserver that supports PHP5. So IIS, Cherokee, et al should "just work". If anyone wants to test and provide feedback, it's more than welcome.

The idea was to also take advantage of CodeIgniters database abstraction - but I have been a little lax on that point. I need to rewrite the models with ActiveRecord. They are still mainly straight SQL. Even though I have kept the SQL as simple as possible, I'll bet there will be some things that won't work on SQL Server. Be advised that this is most definitley "on the list".

The only real dependency should be PHP5 - in the end...
