Hello,
I have scanned almost all my computers with win98. But when I'm trying to scan one computer with win98 I get error:
audit.vbs(120, 7) Microsoft VBScript runtime error: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable: 'GetObject'
There are installed WMI and VBScript (latest versions), MyODBC v2.5. I can see that computer in my network, I can enter shared folders.
Don't know what to do, to lose that error :/ Maybe somebody had problem with this error too and solved it?

Try using the machine's IP address in stead of its name, so

cscript audit.vbs 192.168.99.99 (or whatever) (other options)

Also see if you can browse to the machine from the auditing machine (assuming this is running windows).

can you manage the machine remotely?

From a W2k or XP box...

start> run>

compmgmt.msc /computer=192.168.99.99

or

compmgmt.msc /computer=mymachine.mydomain.local

Can you connect from there to WMI?

Does the machine have any "odd" characters in it's name [{}}/.-_¬`'~# or the like?

When I connect through command

compmgmt.msc /computer=192.168.1.118

and go in WMI control properties, I get message there:

Failed to connect to \\192.168.1.118
because "Win32: The RPC server is unavailable."

goggled almost all day :? no luck so far :(

I'm trying to audit from w2k, w2k3. Target computer name is only from Latin letters.

Not sure about WIN98, we dont use it at all, but... can you connect to WMI from the localmachine... as I said not sure how you do this.

Have you got the latest version of WMI for Win98 from Mr Gates... is it working.

The RPC server is unavailable ... this may be a bit miss-leading sfaik win98 has no RPC server in the WinXP sense, so the message meaning, would be more like cannot connect to WMI.

Try to connect to WMI via the RPC endpoint mapper on TCP port 135. In other words try...

TELNET {the problem ip address} 135

from an XP box,

You should get a connection, (but no sense... just a few blank lines and a box cursor or two, and you will need to kill the task) if you get connection refused, you have a WMI connection issue, but if it connects, you probably have a permission issue. Most likely firewall, spyware or virus, but could be LAN card drivers. Try the lot...

Since I dont use Win98 though I can only say best of luck!
