I know it would be defined somewhere. Nonetheless can somebody define if any license needs to be purchased for the usage of Open audit? Does use of OA in commercial usage entail license purchase or fee payment? If so, then what is defined as commercial usage of the product?

Mark would be the final authority on this but Open Audit v2 is plainly licensed under the GNU AFFERO GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 3 as noted by the agpl-3.0.txt file in the root of the source distribution. I'm sure there's plenty of discussion about this license on the web beyond what's in the license text itself.

There's a big "Donate" button at the OA homepage. *hint*

Yep, the AGPL says nothing about HOW you use the code. Commercial or otherwise. You simply must make any changes you make to the code available to those that use it. This is where the aGPL differs slightly from the GPL. If the code was GPL licensed, then because you are not "distributing" the web part of the application, you would not be required to make your changes available. Being aGPL - you ARE required to make your changes available...

Basically, if you change the code you are under obligation to make those changes available to anyone using your application. And if you really want to be considered a nice guy you would also contribute those changes back here :D

Feel free to use Open-AudIT v2 (OAv2) in any commercial, non-commercial, charity or whatever setting you like.

And yes, there is a donate button on the homepage. I use donations to fund the website and domain name(s). (I have .org, .com, etc).

It is very lind of you Mark. Somebody had remarked that it is an insanely good product and I fully agree.

I always wonder what does Mark get from this? Barely the bucks for hosting the web sites? I know he is famous as the maker and designer of OA. But what else? He would be investing lot of his time, surely in OA.

Won't be long now before Mark is known as the guy that created the best open source software and hardware inventory system available, with OAv2!
