Wired and Wireless Network Cards.

Postby Andrew » Thu Mar 03, 2005 4:37 am

If you have a laptop connected to the network with a WIRELESS card and you run audit.vbs, then an entry gets made (no problems there)

Now if you have that same laptop is later connected to the network with a WIRED card and you run audit.vbs, then another entry gets made. Effectively creating two entries for the same computer.

Now the reason for this is obvious (the wired and wireless cards have different MAC addresses). It would be nice if winventory checked if the computer name already exists and just adds the network adapter to the existing computer entry.

thanks,
andrew.

Will have to work on this, but yeah, I agree.

Hello-

I just noticed with our laptops, the wireless adapter isn't listed in the hardware list. Systems are usually wired to the network, so the wireless adapter wouldn't be in use but does exist.

Does anyone know how to get the wireless adapter to be shown in hardware list, even when a laptop isn't using it with an active connections?

thanks

First, I think we only discover the active network device, or not?

At the other hand: Why we changed to UUID to mac instead of uuid? I can not see any douple devices with uuid. How is the uuid generated?

The UUID is unique to the system and is a value WMI can give you. You should, however, be posting in the OA forum... not the WI :)

And why we are using mac? How we don't use uuid and only as fallback mac?
